Whats OnThe North-West Highlands Geopark, Scotland's first Geopark, is part of the Sutherland Partnership. For two summers in succession, the Countryside Rangers and the British Geological Survey have organised a programme for the European Geopark Week. Well, the good news is that they are planning to do the same in 2009! Their programme is part of the range of Highland Council Ranger planned walks summer 2009, here in Sutherland and the North. Details of the Ranger events programme will appear here in due course. And in the meantime Sutherland Walkers Group are also continuing with their seasonal walks progremmes. You can join them on a trial basis, if you like. To see their current walks programme, click here. And Forestry Commission (Scotland) are doing their bit too! Watch this space for a list of recreation events planned for the coming months (to be announced.) Remember, if you fancy a spot of hill walking among Sutherland's beautiful mountains you can always take a look at one of Scotland's two would-be Munros (Munros are Scottish mountains of 3000 feet or more.) Foinaven, in Sutherland's west, recently came close to being reassessed from 2999 feet to 3000, which would have enabled it to qualify for Munro status! Never mind - it's still a cracking mountain to tackle! Why not walk it yourself and come to a view (literally!)
